Provider FAQs

What is a Robyn?

A Robyn is a Household Assistant who visits a home (typically weekly) to help families with household management.  Our most requested services are:  laundry, organization, housekeeping, shopping, and meal preparation.   You may have some consistent tasks as a Robyn, however, the tasks may change week to week.  A Robyn can spend from 2-20 hours a week per family.  Most families average 4- 8 hours per week (1-2 days per week).

If you love helping busy families, being a Robyn is for you!

What are the benefits of becoming a Robyn?

  • You can create your own schedule.  You choose the days / times you are available to work.  Most families are looking for help during the daytime, during the week.
  • Work close to home.  You choose how far you want to commute to the families you would like to work with.
  • You choose your own pay range.  We have recommended ranges, but you determine your hourly pay with each family.  The website is merely a match maker!

How does the website My Robyn work?

Easy.  After you create a profile, have a phone interview, and complete a background check, families can search for Robyn’s in their area.  After the family identifies you as a match, they will contact you via email or phone.  You and the family will meet, decide on a cost per hour, days, etc.

What happens after I create a profile to become a Robyn?

After you create a profile you will be contacted by a member of our team for a phone interview.  You will also receive an email initiating the background check.  It typically takes 3-5 business days to complete.  You will be contacted by a member of our team via email once you have completed all of the requirements.

What are we looking for in a Robyn background check?

We are making sure there are no felonies, no misdemeanors or infractions (other than traffic violations) in the last 10 years.

Let’s talk about safety….

If something doesn’t feel right, trust your gut.  If something doesn’t feel right, respectfully decline working with the family.  It’s good to say, “I don’t think we are a good match”.

If it would make your more comfortable, meet at a public place during the day before going to the families’ home.  Coffee shops are great!

Let’s talk about hourly rate discussions….

Since you will be working directly with the family in regards to hourly rate, definitely have that discussion as you are meeting with the family.  Make sure you are in the range of what you stated on the website.  Sometimes circumstances arise in which you need to increase the hourly rate due to the tasks requested.  Feel free to bring along the recommended hourly rate form for reference.

Let’s talk about payment discussions….

Since this is typically a weekly service, payment should be made at a minimum weekly or every other week.  You should agree on the method of payment before beginning work.  Cash, check, or PayPal works great as well.  You can request money via Venmo or PayPal at the end of the week or two weeks for the hours worked.

We love using the Harvest App to track time.  You can actually produce invoices and log expenses with the App as well.  They can leave a check with the prior invoice when you come on your scheduled day.

How do I pay for groceries or errands?

If the family is having you run frequent errands, you should agree on a payment method in advance.  You should only pay for the families expenses under special occasions or very small fees.  It is always good to take a photo of the receipt and leave it with the family.

Option 1 – They provide you with cash / prepaid credit card (with appropriate buffer) to cover the expenses.

Option 2 – Once a relationship is established, a joint back account can be opened with one main family member and the Robyn.  The family will put money into the account and the Robyn can withdraw.  This can also be used for payment of actual services as well.

Should I ask for gas reimbursement?

If the family is having you run errands or shopping, it is good to have this discussion upon initial meeting.  Most errands and shopping is typically within a 10 mile radius of the home.  If you are driving more than 10 miles, it is not uncommon to ask for gas / mileage reimbursement above 10 miles.  You can either request a flat fee or a cost per mile.  The current rate for Nebraska is .54 per mile.

When does my time start when I’m running errand on my way to the families’ home?

Your time begins when you enter the store / location the errand is being run.

Communication is so important with the family to determine needs.  It is always good to over communicate in the beginning to get to know the family better.
